Story
I'll never forget
the uniform
for my very first
job. It was a bright
yellow t-shirt that simply
said "There's No Place
Like Dome". You see, I was one of the
lucky high school students from Stoneham
to be hired by Tom and Diane Mayo. In
1980, the Mayos, supported by their parents,
Frank and Doris Newton and Ed and Dottie
Mayo, decided to convert an abandoned historic
building into an old fashioned ice cream parlor.
Because of it's unique domelike rooftop, the former
ESSO gas station, built in the 1920's, became known as
the popular ice cream spot the "Dairy Dome". After that
first summer of working with Tom and Diane, l knew that
my life's work would be in the restaurant industry. Over the
next 27 years, the Mayos grew the Dairy Dome into a successful
business, one that employed hundreds of Stoneham youths.
It became a landmark in town and an integral part of the community.
While the Dome was growing, I went on to culinary school,
worked in many restaurants and achieved my dream of opening my
own restaurant, Rig A' Tony's, in Derry, NH. Over the years, I stayed in
touch with the Mayos and still attribute my success as a business owner
to the work ethic instilled in me during my years at the Dome. Recently,
the Mayos came to me with the idea of bringing our two businesses together.
An idea that would allow me to return to my roots in Stoneham, and more
importantly, the Dairy Dome. The opportunity of sharing the traditions of
home cooked meals, together with old fashioned, homemade ice cream under
one "bright yellow dome", was a dream come true! With this said, Tom & Diane
and myself, Lisa Galuna DeSisto and Dwayne DeSisto, invite you to visit and experience
our new menu. And to the many loyal customers to whom a debt of gratitude is
owed, we hope you come away with the idea that there's still "No Place Like Dome!
